Techno Optimism

Ever since we came to be, we have created technology to help us solve problems and live happier lives. And because of that, each successive generation has lived objectively better lives than the last.

The generation that learned how to use fire made it so that themselves and their children never had to worry about wild animals and had a way to make food easier to chew.

The generations that invented laws and civil society made it so that our civil liberties would forever be protected by an invisible society-wide mental belief system.

And of course, the people that built the internet and modern medicine are responsible for reducing poverty and disease to levels that if you described them to a victorian-era person, they would think you're talking about heaven as it is described in religious texts.

All this betterment. Yet here we stand today. In a world filled to the brim with dystopian and pessimistic depictions of what the future will be for us.

I believe this negativity is heavily misguided and that the future is going to be bright.

And as we all know, the only way to build a good future is to be optimistic enough to attempt to build it. So, here is a list of media pieces I have curated that will hopefully inspire you to believe in a better world and maybe even give you an idea or two for something you can build to enable it.

It is a mix of movies, YouTube essay videos, books, blogposts, etc.

I plan to refresh this list weekly whenever I find a good piece.
